Audio Bits
1.) "What Will The Community Think" by Cat Power is my currently favourite album by that band. Have you listened to it? If you're looking for a soundtrack to accompany a day that went horribly wrong, and has turned into a night of self pity and alcohol enhanced by the physical effects of hard walls and high ceilings ... well, this is what what you're looking for. Just add "Ice Water" (album: Myra Lee) and you're set.
2.) Go now. Find the music of this woman: MIRAH. She's like the alternative/indie rock version of Amelie. You'll experience her once and then decide that you want to love her forever. You'll actually find that you have no choice in the matter. The simple and sometimes primary guitar that she plays means nothing and everything. Where did the drums go? This is the type of question Mike, a friend of mine, has asked. The drums went where the voice came from; heaven. On the live tracks, like those taped at KAOS in Washington and at Amherst in Massecheusetts (sp?), Mirah's solo. The sound is her and her guitar. And, to my ears, this set up leaves nothing lacking. Add in a little distortion, some banter with the audience, and her it-means-love-forever voice and you have a series of tracks that can make you a fan before you've even made it to the second verse.
